Denton County Appliance Repair Call (940) 290-6068

Appliance Repair questions from Denton County homeowners

My garage freezer stopped freezing in July. Is it dead?

Not usually. A standard refrigerator or freezer is built for a climate-controlled room, and Whirlpool's garage-ready models are rated only to 110 degrees ambient, a ceiling a closed North Texas garage approaches on the hottest days. The common failures are a compressor that overheated and is cycling on its overload, a condenser coil and fan packed with garage dust, and a tired start relay. All three are first-visit repairs. If the compressor itself has failed on a budget unit, the technician says so and charges the service call only.

I rent a house near UNT. Who books the repair?

Gated subdivisions, HOA communities and rental houses near UNT and TWU are routine for us: we carry an insurance certificate for the gate, schedule through landlords and property managers, and text an arrival window so nobody waits by the door. If you rent, have the landlord or property manager book or approve the visit so the bill goes to the right person. Property managers with several units can send one list and get one arrival window per house.

What does appliance repair cost in Denton County?

The service call is $89 to $119, waived when you approve the repair. Most jobs land between $175 and $450 parts and labor. Dryers sit lowest, usually $150 to $350; refrigerators run $200 to $550, with sealed-system work quoted separately. The price is flat and set after the diagnosis, before any work begins.

Can you come today?

Refrigerators and freezers are same-day in Denton when you call before noon, and Lewisville, Flower Mound, Corinth and Highland Village are the same drive. Washers, dryers, dishwashers and ovens are next day most of the time. Text the model number when you book and the likely part is on the truck.

The kitchen is original to a 1990s Lewisville house. Repair or replace?

Lewisville's housing nearly doubled in the 1980s and The Colony's oldest neighborhoods date from 1974, so a lot of Denton County kitchens are on their third set of appliances. The rule is simple: under ten years old and a repair under half the cost of a comparable new unit, repair. A sealed-system failure on a refrigerator past 12 to 15 years, or a dead main board on a budget machine, replace. You pay the service call and nothing else if that is the call.

Our town is on well water. Does that change the repair?

Most tap water in Denton County is treated lake water from Lewisville Lake and Ray Roberts, through Denton Water Utilities and the Upper Trinity plants, with Little Elm and The Colony buying from the Dallas and North Texas districts, and it lands moderately hard at around 7 grains; Sanger, Pilot Point, Aubrey and Highland Village mix in their own well water. Either way the parts that touch water, inlet valves, screens, filters and ice maker molds, wear out ahead of schedule. Tell us which utility bills the house when you book, because a scaled inlet screen or ice mold in Pilot Point or Sanger is checked first, before a pump or board is blamed.

A storm knocked out the oven control. Is that covered?

Texas logged more lightning than any other state in 2024, about 40 million events by Vaisala's count, and the Metroplex sees large hail, damaging wind and tornadoes nearly every year, so a fair share of the control board failures we see follow a spring storm or a power flicker. CoServ says surges on your side of the meter are yours to protect against, and a whole-house surge protector at the panel is cheaper than the second board. Some homeowners policies cover surge damage, and the technician documents the failure for your claim.

Do you carry parts, or is it two visits?

One visit for the common failures: igniters, heating elements, thermal fuses, inlet valves, drain pumps, belts, rollers, start relays and the usual control boards ride on the truck. Brand-specific and luxury parts are ordered the same day and installed on a scheduled return.

Do you service Sub-Zero, Wolf and the other built-ins?

Denton County has its share of Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador and Miele kitchens, mostly in the custom and acreage homes of Flower Mound, Argyle and Highland Village and the newer estate lots around Little Elm and Aubrey, and most of them are built into cabinetry that a generalist should not be pulling apart. The luxury service call is $149 to $199, waived with the repair, and the technician who comes out has worked on that brand before.

Are you licensed and insured?

Texas has no state license for appliance repair, and the TDLR air conditioning and refrigeration rules specifically exempt work on residential refrigerators, freezers and ice machines, but any technician opening a sealed refrigerant system must hold EPA Section 608 certification, and new or altered gas piping to a range or dryer is plumbing work in Texas, so a licensed plumber handles it. We carry general liability insurance, with certificates for gated communities and HOAs on request.

What is the warranty on the repair?

Parts and labor, with the period written on your invoice because it depends on the part. If the same part fails inside the window, the return visit costs nothing.

The unit is still under the manufacturer's warranty. Can you fix it?

The manufacturer only pays for warranty work done by its authorized servicer. Tell us the model and the purchase date and we will say whether it is likely still covered, so you do not pay for a repair the manufacturer owes you.
